Danum Valley, Rainforest Wonderland
"Our trip to the rainforest in Borneo and the Danum Valley Conservation Area was a fascinating experience.  Danum Valley is one of the last remaining virgin rainforests in Asia and was declared a conservation area in 1980.  This 60 million year-old tract of land is home to many plant and animal species found only in Borneo, with more than 275 species of birds and 110 species of mammals, including the Orang Utan".

Danum valley is located in the heart of Sabah, Malaysian Borneo. It is within the Sabah Foundation Forest Reserve which is approximately 438 square kilometers in area.

A rich diversity of animals and plants are found here. It is a sanctuary for over 110 mammals which includes the Sumatran Rhino, 10 species of primates, orang utan and the proboscis monkeys to name a few. Other notable species that inhabit here are the Sun Bear and Sumatran Rhino. It is here that conservationist and naturalist converge to oversee research projects, for education, training and wilderness recreation.

Although Danum Valley is essentially a conservation area it is also a wonderful retreat for nature lovers and naturalists.

Located in this wild are the Borneo Rainforest Lodge and The Danum Field Research Centre. The Borneo Rainforest Lodge offers a slightly up-market facilities compare to the Danum Field Research Centre which offers budget but comfortable accommodation.
